The Pros & Cons of Resin Tables!

Resin tables have become increasingly popular in recent years, and for a good reason. These tables offer a unique look that can be customized to suit a variety of styles and preferences. At Alderwood Studios we figured we would strike while the iron was hot and have really fallen in love with the process of designing & building custom, rustic, contemporary, organic furniture which will last

!! However, as with any material, there are both pros and cons to using resin for table construction. In this blog post, we'll explore the advantages and disadvantages of resin tables.

Pros:

  1. Customization: Resin tables can be customized with a variety of colours, patterns, and textures, making them a popular choice for those looking for a unique piece of furniture.

  2. Durability: Resin is a durable material that can stand up to regular use and wear and tear. It is resistant to scratches, stains, and water damage, making it an excellent choice for tables that will be used regularly.

  3. Low maintenance: Resin tables are easy to clean and maintain. Simply wipe them down with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris, and they will look as good as new.

  4. Versatility: Resin tables can be used for a variety of purposes, from dining and coffee tables to desks and side tables. They are also popular in commercial spaces like bars and restaurants, as they are easy to clean and maintain.

Cons:

  1. Heat sensitivity: Resin can be sensitive to heat and may warp or discolour if exposed to direct sunlight or high temperatures. Its not necessary but advised to use coasters and placemats to protect the surface of a resin table from extreme heat.

  2. Yellowing: Over time, resin may begin to yellow or become discoloured, particularly if exposed to UV light. However, this can be mitigated by using a a UV-resistant coating, like the brand we use- Vista, or by storing the table out of direct sunlight.

  3. Cost. Resin tables are typically custom and made from premium materials. Believe it or not, among a large slab of oak (or several) and a lazer cut steel base, the resin is the most expensive part of the table. Therefore a resin table is both expensive to make and build.

In conclusion, resin tables offer a unique look that can be customized to suit a variety of styles and preferences. They are durable, low maintenance, and versatile, making them a popular choice for both residential and commercial spaces. However, they are also sensitive to heat, may yellow over time, and can be challenging to repair. As with any material, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of resin tables carefully before deciding whether they are the right choice for your home or business.
